1st hunt of the year yields old SILVER !!

I hit an old cellar hole area on Sunday. There was about an inch or two of snow on the ground but the digging was good (temp was in the 40's for a couple days).
I first hit this spot last May. My friend and I each got a draped LC and a few flat buttons. I went back in June and got a colonial copper a few more flats and lime disease.
My third trip on Dec 27 turned up another draped, another copper and a few more flats. Yesterday a sweet signal got me a nice 1853 3-cent silver. I also turned up another copper, a few more flats and other artifacts.
I can only make out a few letters on the copper but I haven't had time to research - also I want to figure out what it is before I take a chance on making it worse. It's smaller in diameter than a LC or Connecticut copper and thinner than a LC.

Cool find Bruce.
That's a coin that has eluded me for 35 years:confused:

I'm happy for you my friend....congrats.:clapping:

Thanks Bryce,
I've had some luck with the silver 3-centers. Found an 1852 about a year ago in some woods behind an old church and an 1853 at a sidewalk replacement about 5 years ago.
The pre seated silver has eluded me. My goal last year was to find something bust/capped but it didn't happen. So, guess what my goal is THIS year !!
Best of luck this year (you know what they say... the harder you work, the luckier you get !!)

anything on the back of the copper?
Beautiful three cent piece.

Nice finds, especially that 3 cent piece. I was lucky enough to find one two years ago when I got a penny signal. I dug up a wheat cent and there was still something lower in the hole that gave a nickel or foil sound. It turned out to be a 3 cent piece and the only one I found in 11 years of detecting. I doubt I would have dug it if it wasn't for the wheatie. That copper disc sounds and looks like a US half cent. Good luck & HH.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Can't make anything out yet on the back of the copper and would appreciate advice on how to bring out more features without destroying it.
Diameter is larger than a US half cent. I'm sure its a British piece or a token ??
