I took the Sovereign out for a short hunt today and detected for about 4 hours at a local park that has yielded lots of wheat pennies, but only two silver coins.
I just ignored the loud signals and concentrated on the soft low signals and made a few good finds including 16 wheat pennies dating from 1917 up to 1956, a 1942 quarter ( been awhile since I found one of these ), and a trade token of some kind that I need to research.
On one side of the token is the following: J.L. KELLER
DRUGIST
STATIONER
UNIVERSITY OF VA.
GOOD FOR 5
GLASS SODA WATER
If anyone has a book on tokens, perhaps this is in it and any help is much appreciated.
Many of the wheat pennies were in the same hole as nails and small bits if wire, but the Sovereign gave a good enough signal to dig. One hole had a nail about 5 inches long and still the Sovereign made a good ID reading on the wheat penny... wonder how many times this was missed?
I believe this is the first hunt where I have found more wheat pennies than memorials.
Thanks for looking,
Felix
