Hello!... Bigsquid here! Went down 2 my folks house in Grandview, Mo. This wk. end. Took my new unit w/ me. Had some "spare time", we all know what that is...... Got out fri. p.m... & Tected a little. 10 min.'s I had 2 wheaties... '58 & a '52... darn near the same hole. Another close sweep & my phones told me.... another penny... on my readout. Made my hinge & dead center.... 3".... Gold wedding band!!!!! Right where the unit said it would be. Wasn't standing up... it was laying flat! Still showed up as a penny-zinc range. Inside engraving is "10KGF". Just goes 2 show ya... we've all read these stories B4! DIG IT!!! Even when you're tired! I'm goin' 2 from now on! Back home in Iowa now... Goin' diggin' again. Will let ya know! Bigsquid (5/23/10)

The two rings laying down were suposed to be Nickels and are junk. The one I'm holding is 7.0g and is .925 Silver w/Black Hills Gold inlays, sounded and TID as Zincoln.

I dig pennies
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff! good job! I'm goin' out again, but, got 2 post a new one! Take a look! Bigsquid55 ((5-25-10)

Hi Bigsquid. My brother-in-law and his wife live in Grandview, MO. Nice area. I also have family in St Joe and Smithville, MO right off of I-35. I keep telling myself that one day before long I am going to have to get back there to do some detecting.

Keep digging those pennies. You never know what is going to come out of the ground. On several hunts I have found coin spills that I nearly passed up due to the signal bouncing all over the place. Once I found a 14K men's wedding band in a hole with coins in the spectator area of a ballfield. Probably fell out of a pocket or overturned purse.

Hi, Wasp! Thanks 4 the reply! Bigsquid here. I live in Lorimor, Iowa now... but, grew up in Grandview, Mo. on Martha Truman Rd. Graduated from Ruskin H.S. (1973). I have a sister that lives in Smithville, Mo!! Just west of 169 & 92. Gotta go "tecting" there sometime. Anyway, Been tecting since 1982. Started w/ a BH RB5. Now have a SS II UM. Nice unit! Got some good grounds here in Iowa to hunt. Lots of stories of long ago areas. Will be posting quite a bit this summer (have a feeling). Thanks again..... Have a good holiday! Bigsquid55

I grew up in Raytown, MO and graduated from Raytown South HS. You must have been a toddler when "The Tornado" swept thru Gandview and Ruskin Heights. Really tore up Ruskin HS as I recall. I think a couple of people were killed in the school as well.
You have a great holiday and happy hunting to you!

Hey, wasp! Yep... I was 2 when that storm hit. ButI remember it! Lived north of Grandview then,,, So. K.C. One block south of where old Fairyland Park was! Remember that place? Bigsquid

Fairyland! Yeah, I rode that old rickety wooden framed roller coaster till it made me weak in the knees. Scared the whiz out of you when that frame rocked back and forth. Every ride on that coaster was a near-death experience. That property would probably be a great place to detect.....though I don't know what is there now.

I used to work at the Santa Fe Hills golf and country club out on Holmes Rd as a teenager....I was told it used to be the old Ivanhoe club. Most fun job I ever had....the movie Caddyshack wasn't too far off the mark. I think they tore it down and built apartments or houses on the property. But that would be a great place to detect too if you could figure out where the clubhouse was. Lots of outdoor staggerin drunk golfer parties there over many summers. The waiters used to cruise the greens for drink and snack orders. I remember them counting piles of coins they recieved as tips at the end of the day. I don't imagine that all of their tip money made it back to the clubhouse and is probably still out there somewhere in the ground waiting to be discovered.

Yep digging all signals is the only way to go in order to find the Gold!
Congrats on the Ring!
I've found small gold that comes up as foil. (Very low vdi 10-35 range.)
I've found gold rings that come up as zinc or nickels(.High vdi 40-80)
Thats why digging it all is the only way to go!
