1st fresh water spin with the Excal...

Gulf Huntress

New member
Well I have been threatening to go to fresh water, so this weekend we did just that. Gulf Huntress and I got up sunday morning and backslid from church services and went to a lake that we had hunted previously with the Mark IIs, but it was soo full of ferrous that it was kind of a strain. I always found jewelry there before, but a pouch full of nails too. This time I was armed with the Excal and lemme tell you that dog will hunt in a trashy lake. Began my day by looking at the place where my aunt had lost her gold and diamond ring and no bueno. As soon as I put my headphones on the plastic bracket cracked in half. Guess the Lord was not happy about me being in the lake instead of in the pew! Anyway, I managed to get some duct tape from my aunt and put a little bandaid on the headphone bracket for weekend survival. Left Gulf Huntress at this location and I took off with my pirate ship to the honey hole. Well lemme tell ya, the hurricane did a little rearranging to this area and it is FULL. I did not even put a dent in it. There is a whole lot more work to be done at this location, (coastwise/lady coastwise) that's a hint. Ended up with $3.68 total in clad. 1 .925 button earring, 1 unmarked ornamental earring (tested silver) and girls class ring class of 2002 (yes I will try to find her). The arrowhead came to hand while I was scooping up 1 of my coins and there it was in my scoop. I used to hunt points in this lake before I began treasure hunting. Got up the next morning and Gulf Huntress was not real thrilled about going with me, so we went home and offloaded some equipment and went to the surf (big mistake as you can see).

Not badddddddddd at all !!! much better than I did on my treck to the local lake. Now if I can just get my Mark II working knowledge down as good as you have it I'll be in good shape.

Gulf Huntress has been trying to find where this ring came from, so we could return it and we can't find the school. Figured maybe some of you geniuses out there would have a little better luck. It says Fairmont Vikings, good luck!
