1st Find of the Year and a New Goal !

Ed (Upstate NY)

Active member
On November 13, 1987 I dug my first Indian head cent, dated 1893, with my brand new White's 6000 Di Pro at Swinburne Park in Albany, New York. Today I dug my 945th Indian head, dated 1888, in Lincoln Park in Albany with my trusty Minelab Explorer SE Pro. So I have set a goal to reach #1000 by the anniversary date of my first one November 13, 2017. So I need to dig 55 more which is a little more than what I average in a year. It gives me some initiative to get out more. Hopefully I'll find a few other nice silvery ones while hunting for Indian head cent #1000.

Very nice, way to go

Good luck meeting your goal Ed.

That's awesome - 1000 Indians! :clapping:

If you get out this way there's a place that gives up Indians *almost* every hunt! I've dug over 100 deep ones out of here in the last 18 months!
Good luck on hitting that mark!

This is a great example of why it's a good idea to keep detailed records of your finds !
This way you always know how many of each type of coins you've found and where you found them.

Good luck on hitting 1000 !

Keep all my finds on an excel spreadsheet. That way I can filter and list by location, coin type, date, etc. I like to sort by coin type, then coin date to see how many and what years I have for certain coins.

I've been meaning to do that for years, haven't gathered the gumption to get excel smart.

Instead I write things on a legal pad; I have terrible handwriting to start with, then spill beer and hydrogen peroxide over everything, not to mention more than occasionally to log finds. None-the-less it is still fun to dig through them and reminisce. (I do digitize them)

Perhaps some insanely cold and boring winter could try enter past years in the spreadsheet.

How much work is it?

Chris

Good luck on reaching that goal...

Wow! 1000 Indian's! That's Cool! I got my first detector (Fisher F-4) December 31, 2013. To date I've found 61 Indians! I have a goal to reach 100 this year! I found 26 last year, and have already found 16 this year! going to be a challenge for me! It would be the most ever for me in one year! Keep us posted on your success! What's your oldest? My oldest that has dates are 2 1863 fatty's. One fatty has no date, but not a 59. I started keeping an excel spreadsheet in 2014, but now I label all my old stuff and take a picture with place found and date. My coins, I label place, date, and GPS, and put them in a 3 ring binder. Working on stories with pictures for the stuff that won't fit in the binder.
