Well today was the first day out with my new Explorer Se. Took it to the beach two weeks ago for about an hour just to get an idea of what it was like. Well today was by far my best day detecting period. Got permission to hunt an old property the other day. Had no idea how old it was but was told 1800's. Hit it this morning and hunted it till about 3:30 and dug all kinds of trash. The house is still there(what's left of it). I can tell it's foundation has been replaced or the house was moved at some point because it's concrete block. The house is really old for certian. The place is full of torn up cans and pieces of metal everywhere. Up close to the house is almost a constant null. Filled up my finds bag twice. But, I did find two large Cents. My first pre-1900 coins. The first one is a Draped Bust. Can see the reath on the back just bearly. But can see enough of it to tell it's 1796-1807. Unreal find. Second one is in better shape but cant see a date. It's a Matron Head style, has thirteen stars and has the line under the word cent. Best I can tell it's between 1816-1835. Before this the oldest coin i've found was a 1910 wheat penny. The only modern coin I found today was a '70's lincoln. I stopped by my dealer's shop on Friday to pick up my Excal battery pod and was telling him that my goals for this year were gonna be a Indian Head penny and a Barber anything. I never thought I would ever find anything this old. Cant believe I found these both on the same day. Going back tommorrow after church to see what else I can find. Dont know how the pictures will look, I put alittle oil on them to make it easier to see. Also would like to thank everybody here on the forum for all the help I've got just by reading everything. Thanks to Bryce for the advice. Did leave it in the factory preset and after I found the first Coin I slowed way down and I was going pretty slow to start. Thanks again everybody and thanks for looking.
