1st Contact with the SE

No, this isn't a story of me being abducted and provided with some kind of alien technology. :help: Although if it wasn't for the emulator I might have looked at it that way being a White's guy and all.... :lmfao: (Thanks Max!), The wife decided she wanted to go to a couple of horse auctions yesterday, and one of them happened to put me within 10 miles of an actual detector store (the only Minelab dealer within 100 miles of me, I might add...), so naturally I had to stop in. I have a SE on layaway with a sponsor from here, but it was nice to actually pick up a SE and swing it around a bit. The controls are v. nicely set up, and the machine wasn't near as heavy as I was expecting...we'll see after an 8hr hunt, I guess. I will say that after picking one up, I now have no reservations to adding an X-1 probe, except for maybe the price... I was also surprised at how much I had to knock down the sens. just to use this bugger inside (4" of snow on the ground here in MI). But even with the sens. at min. it distinguished the coins very well from the re-bar in the concrete. I'm excited to see how deep this baby will go at some of my favorite haunts when cranked up! I try to keep my purchases local when possible, but this fella couldn't even come close to our sponsors' pricing. That being said, I picked up a few magazines to help me make it through til' spring and suggested this site to him. Sorry to ramble but this was the next best thing to getting out and digging for us northern folk!!

Congrats on getting the new SE..It may not feel heavy for the few minutes you held it but trust me it gets heavy when you swing it for a few hours..Still no other detector I would rather wear my arm out using though :detecting: HH

Congrats !

Keep an eye open for a used probe on here. I picked one up fairly cheap and it works like a champ !

the first time you get pretty frustrated with it from the barage of sounds and want to wrap it around a tree...but then remember how much $$$ you spent...and decide not too:clapping:
Now on a serious note...you have a great machine on the way and it was cool that you took one for a test drive.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for a used X-1. That is first on my list. I think the benefits of a pin pointer that can discriminate trash from the good stuff will be invaluable. An X-5 will be second on my list, especially for some of the fairgrounds that I like to hunt. The hardest part will be for me to not hit these trashy areas right off the bat, and to not tinker with the settings too much, at least until I become acclimated to the sounds. The tones seem ok, my daughter thought they sounded "alien like". But I kept watching the smart screen when sweeping and correlating the cross-hairs pegging in the top right corner with the tones.... I think I'll do ok with it. Of course I say that now, until I add in the ground matrix and random trash...:stars: As always, thanks for the support fellas!

You will really like it once you get used to it.

It is pretty heavy. Even though I have good size arms, I find myself having to switch arms every 10 minutes or so, to give the other a rest. Makes my forarms burnnnnn.
