Hey all,
I have to post this only because I'm beside myself and have no other peer MD outlets. After 3 years back at MD'ing I finally found not 1 but 2 1800's coins today.
First part of the story was a little scary..... I found myself alone at an out of the way park in an urban area which was OK with me. A car came by loaded with 3 urban youth, drove around the circle and slowed to a stop as they drove back towards the exit. One got out and made his way to the tree line, the other two stayed in the car, put it in reverse and started a slow roll back towards me (thankfully a couple hundred yards away and I had watched them). Quickly decided the "yute" didn't exit his car to use the facilities. Made my way back to my car, aborted that area and probably saved myself from being robbed, harmed, and carjacked. Remember to keep an eye on those surroundings people!
Frustrated, I stopped by a local ballfield where I've had just OK luck for the last 1/2 an hour and hit pay dirt. I came up with 2 large cents about 10 feet from each other. One is readable and looks to be a 1807 and was only at 2". The other (pretty smoothed out and I thought was a slug when I pulled it out) was at 4" or so and might be an 1800 (by style and a readable "0" in the date.
I was hoping for a piece of silver today but this has blown that dream away. Only problem now is I've caught the bug to find more old stuff!!!!
Oddly enough I left my Vision in the trunk and was using my M6 to make these finds as I move a little faster with the M6/DX-1 combo. Gotta love Whites!
Thanks for letting me share and HH'ing to all,
