19th Century Relics Help with musket ball.

I found some small round objects near the spot that I found flat buttons & a 1836 large cent (see the post in the "METAL DETECTING" forum).

It was getting dark so I only got in about 40 minutes of detecting. I plan on going back this weekend at sunrise!

THe object is is too small for a musket ball. Is it from a pistol?

Cammon,

It's kinda hard for me to tell about the roundball..... it could be a .36 caliber round ball.... or, a large piece of buck for a buck and ball load. Do you have a set of calipers for a measurement?

Also looks like you have a winding stem for a pocket watch. And, is that an escutcheon plate or a keyhole plate for a large lock??

Take care,

Kim

escutcheon plate ? It looks more like a keyhole plate for a lock. I found it near cellar hole of what may have been the the entrance of an 18th century tavern. It is a watch key.

I found the above items and the coin in about 20 minutes before it got dark. I would say I only searched 10% of the perimeter of the cellar hole, concentrating on what appeared to be the entrance. I have not yet searched the hole. I found a map from 1833 that shows a few other structures in the vicinity.

I found another flat button a few hundred yards away but I thought it was a tent snap and I discarded it.

I am returning to the site at daybreak on saturday.

Here is the coin:
