1996 Penny Error??

I found a Penny that is double stamped (or double striked). It is a 1996 D and has a slight tails stamp over lincoln and a slight heads stamp over the tails side. Any idea what something like this is worth if anything??

hi clay. first, check to see if the cent is bent at all. if it is bent, then it didn't come from the mint. the sorting machinery would automatically have rejected it. i think what you have is a soft - died cent. that's where someone takes another cent and hammers the reverse sides onto the coin, creating a slight "doubling" or "error" effect. reverse impressions from the mint are extremely rare, so i doubt it's genuine. it's fooled a lot of people.

your best bet is to take it to a coin shop or coin show and have the experts look at it, and perhaps authenticate the piece for you. good luck, and let us know how it goes. hh,

Have to see a picture of it to get a better idea. But like Gray Ghost said, it's probably an after market invention. If only one side had a reverse image on it, it could be done at the mint. But, both sides having the opposite image stamped onto it?? Suspect!! Show it to a coin expert, But DON"T let him keep it for any reason. That's all I have to say about that. Good luck!
