1937 Buffalo nickel today

Well-known member
I was able to go to church today and able to metal detect for about 45 minutes until I ran out of steam. The first and only coin I found was a 1937 Buffalo or Indian head nickel about 6 inches down. I registered as iron, but had a coin tone and with the pro pointer I found it rather quickly. Then I found a rusted piece of metal and a wheel weight and after that I had to call it quits for the day. I was using the 12 inch imaging coil. When I get it cleaned up, maybe I can figure out how to post a photo. It's good to get out on a beautiful fall day and find something special for me. I know a lot of you other members have found lots more coins, rings and older coins than that, but it was a blessing to me just to find it and be able to metal detect for the first time in about 6 months.

Good for you fongu. I've not found a buffalo nickel yet. Hope you can get out more as time goes on.

:usaflag:Buff's are always exciting to find...congrats !!

I can't tell if it has 3 or 4 legs. I intend to soak it in some water and try to scrub the dirt and corrosion off with a toothbrush.

The last time I soaked some coins in worcestershire sauce, it ruined a 1956 wheat penney and a 1968 dime. It discolored them, maybe not ruined, I don't know. I used separate pill bottles to soak them in but they look terrible.

It sure would be nice if it had 3 legs. I think the value is $120 or $180 for one of those, but the grade of the coin might not be up to snuff.
