I got my second SLQ today, both of them have full dates, which is unusual. We had a cool front go through, so I'd thought I'd go out before the hot weather returned. Still working the woods at an old park, today I tried an area where it used to be semi-open, but is now overgrown. There are a few scattered large oaks and beeches (three feet diam. and more), but the rest of the trees are 10 inch diameter max. I got to a level hilltop area and started picking up a few wheats. The SLQ was near one of those large beech trees that people have carved their names on. It was an iffy signal, mostly that high screaming sound that is usually a hot rock, but the conductivity number did drop down to 29 or 30 occasionally. I dug down 3 or 4 inches, found a rusty piece of iron. Refilled the hole and swung over it again, then got a solid silver signal (00-29). Luckily I hadn't dinged it while digging out the rusty nail. Wheats were 39,41,42,46,51 and 58D. One lone memorial cent. This is a very trashy area, lots of beer cans, etc.
