1923 wheat penny in plain site

Heh all,

My wife and I have been metal detecting now for about two months and found our two oldest coins so far-a 1923 (right on the surface!) and 1937 wheat penny at a place where no one has ever hunted (according to the owner). I got permission only with the sworn oath not to tell about the location! All I can say is that it has been a popular site since the 1930's, and we only hunted it for a couple of hours. As we left, I learned that we were not even hunting at the oldest parts of it! For us in Washington State this is a great site!

We also found other clad, several bullet casings, and a small hand compass. We can't wait to go back and spend some real time there!

hi todds, i hope yourre feeling better. i know you were in pain last week. i'm thinking there's a lot more good stuff just waiting for you and your wife at this site. it's showing a lot of promise. silver is on the way...i know your quickdraw2/pioneer 202 is a very capable machine, altho not the best in the bounty hunter lineup, it's one of the best, and that you want to step up to a better machine. metal detectors in general are not good liars. being so new to detecting, i would urge you to become more familiar with your machine. give it a better chance to show it's worth to you. i would never consider parting with my 202, it's an excellent backup, and was my primary hunter for 2 years, while a nautilus and white's sat in the closet collecting dust. what does that tell you? i did recently buy a tesoro cibola, and it's done well. but, be the result what it may, good luck with the new spot! it shows good promise already. hh,

Todd, if you don't mind...what part of Washington? I was born and raised in the Yakima valley. I now live just across the Columbia River in Oregon.

I found a 1942 mercury dime on the gravel at the drive in the bounty hunter went beep beep and looked down and picked it up no digging gotta love that

He guys,

I live in Spanaway (Tacoma). My wife is from the Tri-cities area.

Yes, I PLAN TO KEEP USING THE quick draw. I am feeling better with it, but I still plan to update to a better model for more depth (probably an M6 or MXT) With all the rain we get around here, I'm sure there are lots of coins that I have sunk below 4 inches. I love the hobby and will keep everyone posted on how I do. The wife and I are going to try and find a Ghost town tomorrow to hunt.

The "secret" site has to be on weekdays-so when I get a day off work I am definately going back there!

Todd

Oh I forgot to add...after 6 chiropracter visits, taking some time off....and lots of ice, I feel much better! I am trying to take it a bit easier for a while (4 hours or less....rather than 8-10 hours at a time for several days in a row!
