1916... D???

I picked this up along with 80 other various coins from a friend who knows nothing about coins and only wanted to buy golf stuff. (I gave him a pretty good deal in case you're wondering) At the time, I thought this was just a 1916. I looked under my 30x lens and I still thought it was just a 1916. But now that I get home and take a pic of it and zoom in, I'm not so sure... It looks like there could be something there; the "D" mark is so different and located differently on the mercury dimes I have.
I wish there was some other mark or difference between the 1916 and 1916d so that I could know for sure!!

At least the 1916 is clear...

Check the link below for the D. It's higher and to the right.

It does appear to be out of place for a mintmark, possibly a small dent ??? It would pay to have someone look at it however.

Could be... but when I look at the other mercury dimes I have, the mint mark is in slightly different positions. I would assume that the placement of the "D" on your 1916d would be the same as mine, but maybe not?
I think I'm gonna have to get a dealer to look at it.

Jeremy, after digging the 16 D last month (the one that Keith posted the link to) I have been checking ebay prices and ones that have the D vertually obliterated are still getting $250-$350. The only way to tell for sure is to send it away to be graded and slabbed. They are the experts and they do charge a fee...$30 or $35 I think. If it is not a D then you are out the money. If it is then it was money well spent...if you decide to sell it. Mine, well I think I'm keeping it.

The D on the 1916Ds are high compared to the S mintmark. I have found a few just like yours and hoped they were but unfortunately they were not.
