1912 BARBER DIME

Well i managed to sniff out a 1912 barber yesterday at a river park. I Use the se pro and the 12x15 sef i recently bought due to many reads on this forum. especially Bryce's field tests on most of the sef coils. I decided on the 12x15 for more ground coverage. And im starting to really sniff out these "iffy" signals. and thats what this barber gave. Iwas poking along and came up to a signal that gave a good choppy hi tone squeek in all directions. the numbers read 4-28 6-26 16-28 15-25. and i knew it was a deep or on edge coin that the "iffy's" give.It read 8"- 9" on the depth meter. but i know the sef coils read 2"-3" deeper than they actually are. weird huh? So i dug a 3sided plug with my little spade. stuck the probe in the hole and it was there. moved around the dirt and:surprised:: I was thinking my be a wheaty. But to pull out a barber just made my day. cant figure out the picture thing, or i would have showed it. Does any one know how to correct the depth meter using the sef coils? I tried factory reset, and multiple noise cancels. But it still reads 2"- 3" deeper than the target is.

Great find ! :cheers:I love those barbers ... have'nt found one since june though...maybe I'll get lucky and find one more before the season ends.

They are pretty hard to find -- especially here in Oklahoma which is not a very "old" state. I got a 1904 (dime) in nice shape earlier this year, but those Barbers, SLQs, and Indian Heads seem to me to be as rare as hen's teeth...

Where I hunt, most of the older finds seem to be wheat cents and Mercury dimes. For whatever reason, I find quite a few more Mercury dimes than Roosies..

[size=large]doesn't appear anyone has the cure for the SEF problem. here i was thinking i was mis-reading the depth gauge all this time. was sure the target was 6 " and end up finding it maybe 3.5"-4" down. wonder if i'll have the same problem with my mxt version.
