1908 Dog License Tag! / Old Hubley Star Toy Gun + A Few Other Cold Weather Finds

Well-known member
Finds are from a couple close old school/city park hunts with James plus a short 2 hour hunt when I got the old toy gun.
I first found the barrel piece of the old toy gun and the main part was close by. I was thrilled to finally get a complete old toy gun. From my research is around 1950. It is a Hubley "Star".
The old dog license tag read just like an Indian head penny (12-34) and was a very nice surprise. I know how rare it is to find one that old, Especially one with an entire dog design like this one has.
I have never saw that entire dog design before.
Yesterday I went out and hunted with James (fellow snow dummy ). The snow ended up being about 3 inches deep by the end of the day with a nasty wind. I got a few finds
yesterday back 101 years along with getting silver and the Holy Childhood Association medal.

Coin Finds
Silver dimes are 1943,1964.
Indian Penny is 1892.
Nickel is 1947.
Wheat pennies are back to 1917.

Non Coin Finds
1950 Hubley "Star" toy gun
1908 Dog license tag
1959 "Jinks" wrap around ring
Holy childhood association medal
Old Revlon lipstick container
Old flower hatpin
old large ornate brass pin
2 old ornate buttons
old fork (note handle design)
old buckle
small play coin

One nice hunt there..

Elton...I need to get that signature of yours printed on a T-shirt to wear around my house when the wife and kids are home!

Trust me..it does not apply at home !...

One of the best dog tags I have seen and that gun is superb. There was one very sad youngster that lost that gem 70 years ago. Great finds as always. Hope you can get out again before the snow takes over. ATB Greg

Thanks Greg!
Yep, I had some luck finding the barrel first which was deeper and really made me look for the main gun in that area.
The main gun part was only about 2-3 inches deep and could have been skipped as someone may have thought it was a crushed pop can.
hopefully I can get a hunt in a little further south over thanksgiving weekend.
I enjoy your videos.

Can’t figure out how that gun was able to get buried. Seems someone would of been able to find it beforehand. Anyway you have some great finds. Love that old dog tag!

Thanks Dave! I had no idea you were still watching my videos. Very happy to hear you are! That means a lot to me. I guess you saw the one where I found a Diamond Hubley derringer. I thought of it when I saw you had found a Star Hubley. LOL The next video coming out is going to be good. I found a very cool piece in the middle of the woods while we were searching for a Civil War camp site. Might be one of my best finds this year. If anyone else might like to check them out my channel on YouTube is called Finding America and I find everything using my Etrac. I can always use more subscribers LOL Greg

Thanks! I found the gun on the edge of the park next to the ditch so where there was somewhat of a grade there.

I always like finding the old Dog Tags - yours is in great condition - congrats !

A year or two ago someone started a "Show Us Your Old Dog Tags" thread.
The thread got a lot of replies - I think the oldest one posted was from the 1870's !
It's hard to believe that it was required to licence your dog in some states 150 years ago !

Good Hunting !

Thanks, yes some of those dog tags can get very old.
