1906 S Barber

Hi All,

Been a while since I posted to this forum. I'm new to the Minelab community, having just bought a used EXII from one of the forum members RonC(OR).

I've had it for about three weeks and am hitting all of my old spots. I've found around 20 wheats and two silver rosies.

Here's last nights find from a park that's been my go-to spot for the last three years. Two years ago I found a 19S wheatie there, and last year a 58S wheatie that I think was a recent drop. I've never heard of silver coming out of this park, but being founded in 1915 I was sure that it had to be there.
I was stunned when this very nice 1906S Barber dime popped out. About six inches deep. The funny thing is that I'd dug a plug about 4" away because I had a repeatible one-way silver warble. Dug the plug and there was a nail sticking out the side. Replaced the plug and resumed my swing and got a solid pulltab signal. Since this was a learning trip for me, I decided to dig it to confirm. Removed the pulltab, swiped the probe to double check and it was screaming at me. I thought it was a case of just dumb luck, but then I remembered the high warble on the last plug. I think my EXII was reading the Barber at the forward couple inches of the coil and trying its best to tell me it was there.

Then again, maybe it WAS just dumb luck.

Hi Chuck,

The small pic is a detail (at least it was my intent) of the Liberty on the headband. This one has a full Liberty visible, which is one of the benchmarks in grading the coin. I'm not a coin expert, or even remotely proficient, so hopefully some other members will speak up with a better explanation. All I know is that I LOVE old coins.

Anytime there is Wheats in a spot, there is Silver so keep working your spots no matter what anyone tells you. It's there somewhere. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

what threw me off was what looks like a small head just below the wreath. i never knew that was there. thanks.
