1901 Barber with the Outlaw

Hi Everyone, been a while since i've posted or even been on here. Went into the back woods today for a quick hunt. Two Peters High gun Headstamps, one Western Headstamp, and a pretty decent 1901 Barber Dime. I was in disc mode, sensitivity maxed, and threshold around 9:00, and disc minimum. I like this setting for woods hunting. She's a bit nervous at those settings but hits hard on anything and deep. It reminds me of hunting with a Fisher F75, nervous as hell...Haha.. Anyway, it was only about 7" deep and rang out loud, round, and clear. Glad I didn't scratch it...Oh ya, I was using the 10x12 DD..

Idxpro,

Nice find on the Barber dime, I guess that you have the 're-tune' button figured out.

I'm glad you are having some success with the Outlaw, I think that the 5.75 coil used around some old cellar holes would be a good pick.

Idx, congradulation on the barber , thats a great closal find, I know what you mean it gets a bit chatty at those levels but in the woods it calls in the turkys .

You got that right Gun. I don't mind the chatty though, with just the right GB it don't miss much. It's a great woods machine. Hombre, I never did send it in, I simply push it in quickly and release and she comes unstuck, I think?? I've learned to simply leave alone too. I don't think it really offers much besides pinpointing and even that's just as easy to x the spot. Also In the woods I can dig nice big holes....LOL. I don't use it to coin shoot. Something about my IDX PRO that just can't be beat when it comes to deep coins. I do like it's sensitivity to gold however. So I guess for now it's a jewelry and relic machine...

Nice going on the Barber Dime! Although it doesn't really count until see a picture of the dime. :)

ya gots ta see a piture.

I wonder if using those same setting with my Vaquero would be optimal for hunting in woods or if the higher kHZ (14.3 versus 10.6 kHz) make it less effective? Any ideas or should I just try it and see?
