1898 "S" Five Dollar Gold

Met up with a few guys from the forum Sunday AM. After an hour or so of digging junk I moved over close to the sidewalk and got a funny little signal. I figured another piece of rusty iron. Well I flipped out a digger full of loose dirt , then checked the pile with my MXT. I got a strong pull tab reading. I moved the dirt around and thought I saw a "V" Nickel. I looked some more and thought the color was strange, but was still thinking Nickel. Then I saw the eagle on the back and read " Five D.". My first reaction was to yell an start the dance of joy, but a little voice said wait this isn't happening to you, that coin most likely is a piece of chocolate wrapped in foil. After a few moments I realized I had actually found a five dollar gold coin and yes the yelling and the dance of joy began. I guess the other guys thought I was snake bit and came over to see what had happen to me. They all seemed as happy as I was. The coin is in excellent condition. I believe the scratch was already on the coin, but I could have done it myself. The other find was a 1917 "S" buff. And yes it does feel mighty good. Dan

Monte,
I was hunting a empty lot where they were bringing in dirt from demos and spreading it out over a few acres. I use the Eclipse DD 9 or 10 inch coil. Dan
