1887 TP tag

I found this tag in Millard, Nebraska when I was a teen in about 1978. It is about as thick as a dime. It was found in a friend's front yard of a home built in the 50's or so and about 1/4 block from the original RR tracks that run through Millard. I have had some suggest that this is from the T & P (Texas & Pacific RR). When I look at where it ran, it did not seem to leave the southern TX area. If indeed this is a Texas & Pacific tag, I wonder how in the world it would have ended up in Millard, NE? Any more info would be greatly appreciated from any RR buffs out there. Thanks, Bryan

It could be a Dog License Tag. T-P meaning tax paid. Looking thru the U.S. Dog License Tag book by Wm. J. Bone, I don't see one listed yet for Millard. Yours could be the first. Contact Mr. Bone: tagman51@att.net

thanks a lot, I will contact him. I have been told that this may be a Texas & Pacific RR tag, but that line never left Texas, per the maps I viewed. I will email him. Bryan

He just contacted me back. He said it is definitely a dog tag. The T P is for Tax Paid. He is very interested in buying it from me, but it will be hard to let go of this great find, from my old home town and found when I was a teenager. Hmmm. He is going to send me what he thinks it is worth to him.

Congrats on great find. Is he going to add it as an update to his book? I'll pencil it in, in mine.

That's a cool tag.
Congrats on an early find... both the tag and when you found it.

Wow, I need to look closer at the dog tags I found!

I am listing this dog tag on Ebay right now. Vintage 1887 Dog Tag. I hate to let it go, but the time has come as the need has arisen. Should be listed within the hour. Bryan
