1872-S Seated Half & 1878 Seated Quarter in Same Hole!

I really wanted to go treasure hunting yesterday and finally thought of a spot I just barely touched years ago and found nothing. Boy have things changed. After finding a draped bust large cent and an old button I got a loud double tap. Stuck my shovel in the ground and low and behold up comes an 1878 Seated Quarter. It was so shallow and dirty I first thought it was a clad quarter, hence in my stupidity I rubbed part of the coin. I remembered I had heard a double signal so when I rechecked the hole and got a loud, solid signal I couldn't believe it. I thought I might be finding another Seated Quarter. It wasn't the case, it was a SEATED HALF! Nice coin to as it's close to extremely fine. The quarter is a sold EF with some mint luster around the stars on obverse and the legends on reverse. I don't think I'm going to be able to get a date out of the draped bust large cent, but the profile is there on the front and one cent, part of the wreath, ribbon and fraction are visible on the back. I did post this in the Minelab CTX 3030 forum, but thought I might share here also.

What do you attribute the big difference in results to ????????? .

Better equipment . More Experience. Why did you find the goodies this time ???

PS: Nice job !!!

Yes! Those are awesome once in a lifetime finds for most of us.:clapping:..so I am also interested in what Elton posted...what made you go back there, just a hunch, or what? Do you think anybody could have found that spill if they would have got a coil over it, or do you think it would have sounded like shallow trash to most folks, and since you were using your new machine, you were digging everything during your learning process? Great job, and Congratulations! :clapping:

Elton and Mud, What made me go back was I found out there was a church nearby listed on an 1867 map and got me to thinking. I went back and went much farther into the woods and worked some different spots. The large cent was fairly deep, but the seated quarter and half couldn't have been more than 4 or 5" down tops. I couldn't resist going back this morning and found another seated quarter, an 1873 Indian and a very worn 1/2 real. I'll be posting them after dinner.

Now that what it all about , I dont know what i would so if i found those ,
