1872 indian head penny found today

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
I found today what appears to be a worn 1872 Indian head penny which is a good year.
I detected close to home today at a couple schools, a park and a fairgrounds.
Also included are 2 buffalo nickels from a couple hours Friday after work at a school.
One buffalo nickel is a 1917 D which is a better year.
I used the 4.5 x 7 coil at the fairgrounds and the stock coil on the rest of the sites.

Great finds !

The 4.5" x 7" coil sure is killer at isolating targets - most of the time you don't even need to pinpoint before you dig !

nice job! keep it up

Congrats on the key date Indian and the rest.

Is that a token or button, middle bottom row? Appears to be military related from the pic.

Hey there Ironsight,
no that is just a newer amusement token from the fairgrounds.
I still like finding them once in a while though.

Congrat's on the key date IH and a nice old Buff too.

Several years ago a guy asked me if I could MD his yard and I could keep everything I found but he would like to see everything I found. So I'm MDing his yard and found a 1872 IH in pretty good shape and I was thinking it was a common date one and told him that he could have it. He didn't want it and I kept trying to give it to him but he would not take and boy I'm I glad he didn't take it after I found out it was a key date one. so I almost gave one away, lol

Remember the vdi number on the buff....Mine seem to hit at 12...or was it bouncing and deep ?

Both buffalos were about 8 inches so the numbers bounced a little (10-12 ferrous) / (13-14 conductivity).
I knew there was a decent chance they were old nickels before I dug them though.

yes...you dig all nickel possibilities if you think they are there....
Thanks for the info...
