Good finds.....hh.....Dan

I believe that gun is a Trap Gun that was fastened down pretty solid to a log or something and bait was attached to a string/wire (probably attached to that gizmo on the side/front of the barrel). This was lined out in front of the muzzle, a cartridge loaded into the gun, and the gun was cocked ..(Haw,Haw..that's what the auto-censor said !!). probably by pulling back on that ring. If an animal tugged on the bait it "pulled the trigger" and theoretically was shot in the process. These things were extremely dangerous to dogs, livestock and kids, and certainly weren't reliable killers of the target fur-bearers. They were generally made illegal in about the 1930's and setting one these days is considered a serious impropriety! Your relic specimen could be a fairly valuable collector's item, assuming it isn't illegal to possess (which should be checked out). Modern treasure hunters should be acutely aware that Marijuana growers and dope stashers have been known to set up 12 gauge versions of the same general thing ... aligned about belt buckle high.:yikes:

Hi Gunnar; Cool Finds. And you thought the Indian Wars were over. Hahaha. Those finds showed you.!!!!!!!!! :lmfao: I believe it is legal o own that piece given its age and condition.I would not want to try to fire it.You may have more to worry about than "wait high" I think that gun will be worth some good dough as an antique.
Hi silversmith. I never had to worry about the Marijuana or dope stashers. I learned to duck.!!!!!!! PEACE:RONB

GunnarMN , What kool finds . Is that Indian Head a Fatty ? I got a 62 last year was a fatty very kool . The gun is fantastic and the last thing I would ever worry about is the Law on what you find . That is why I cant stress enough to keep tight lipped about where your finding and just what you find . Little white lies about a location is best . The last thing I'm going to let happen is let some desk Jockey Cop or Conservation officer give me a run around . The vast majority don't care about what we find but there is always one with some thing to prove . Silence is golden

Two great finds...
