1862 coin error

flynndfx40

New member
Me and sonny went Tue and he found a lock plate for a gun i found a 1862 Indian head and when i clean it saw that the reverse was off at 2 clock is this rare i never seen one before

If both the front and back are off-center to any great degree, it would be a fairly rare error coin. If just one side is off center, then it amounts to what is called "misaligned dies", and they are much more common, considered a minor error for that time period unless one side is several percent or more off-center. Can you scan and post a picture of it ?

FLYNN DESCRIBED THE COIN A LITTLE BIT WRONG. WHEN YOU HOLD THE OBVERSE SIDE STRAIGHT UP AND FLIP THE COIN OVER THE "ONE CENT"IS CANTED TO THE TWO O'CLOCK POSITION. THE COIN IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE WITH NO PETINA ON IT. WE WILL TRY TO GET A PIC POSTED NEXT 24 HRS. THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE

That sounds more like a "rotated die" error. Not real common, but not considered "rare" either. Still a neat coin.
