I dug this "live" round two years ago with my Garrett Ace 250. It sat on a shelf until I deceided to get it checked out by our local gun expert. Pretty cool results ! Enjoy !

Great find , nice history behind it as well

Very cool find unfired! I got pretty stoked finding a fired casing for a 50-cal rimfire rolling block pistol, but that unfired rare rifle round takes the cake. We have tons of modern ammo littering the hills, but I still check out those with a solid ID for just that reason, they might be something older. I found a 50-70 Spencer centerfire round unfired, but I think it's a fairly recent Dixie Arms reproduction for a modified Civil-War-era rifle. I've been back to that spot a dozen times since looking for another, LOL!

Cool find McDave!! I know the feeling. I have detected for years and was just hoping to find a spent shell casing. I was doin' a dance when this little honey came out of the ground. It is a 50-70 rimfire cartridge with a Benet primer. It was found at a known battlefield outside of a Federal Park. Bar none, I think this is my greatest find!
