1851 navy colt made in 1863 all matching #

I believe the 1st and 2nd model had a square backed trigger guard, the 3rd type had a round trigger guard. The London model had steel backstrap and triggerguard. I can give you more detail when I get home from work and can look at my Flayderman's book.

Most 1851s that are in good mechanical order with all matching serial #s and little to no original blue go for around $1500 to $2200. Add some good coverage with original finish and the price goes way up. If the gun was refinished or cleaned (removal of patina) then the price goes way down.

Of course if you have some documentation of historical significance then the value may soar.

If you don't get a more detailed response by this evening I'll check Flayderman's and give you more info.

Condition, condition, condition. That's everything to a collector. 1st model colt navy's are the most sought after. Followed by 2nd models. 3rd and 4th model 1851 colt navy's are similar in value. Again, top money for mint to near mint revolvers. Strong provenance will add $$. One with proven soldier ties add $. Officer add $$. General Officer of notoriety add $$$$+ Top 1st models can fetch $5K plus; 2nd models $4K plus; 3rd and 4th models can bring $1K or more. Again, it's condition will set the price. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

A little additional info:

first model serial #s 1-1250
second " " " 1250-4200
third " " " 4200-85000
fourth " " " 85000-215348

there is some overlap between serial # ranges

The London model has it's own serial # range - 1-42000

First and second model values are considerably higher than third and fourth.

Hope this is helpful
