1844 large cent

I started detecting 8 years ago with my gti2500.Within the first 2 weeks of hunting,I found an 1844 large cent with it.I've always considered this precious coin as my best find.Problem is,I think it's gone.

I'm thinking it got swept off the counter and into the coin jar, never to be seen again after it was run through the coin machine at my local bank....such a heartbreak.I've had other items that were given back to me while cashing in coins before,i.e. watch battery, brass button, bent quarter and clad penny. If these items never went through, and were given back to me,why was my large cent not given back to me? If any of you fellas could help me out....I'd be grateful.....thanks

That is such a bummer, man. All of my good finds go straight to a special, safe spot where they won't interact with relatives, kids, or roommates because I know that anything valuable or cool is going to be gone the next day. I have no idea why the machine took your large cent. It seems remote to me that it would actually be programmed to recognize that coin. Then again, maybe you're wrong, and it didn't get swept into the coin jar to begin with. Maybe, just maybe it's worth asking if someone spotted it and kept it around at the bank? You never know. Personally I would make double sure it isn't lying around, misplaced in your house. You got kids? Maybe they put it somewhere...maybe it got stuck in between the couch cushions...

Grilled, thanks for the input.Another special thing about the matron, was that it was found on my own 12 acre property, which housed a roadside pub/or some kind of stagecoach line? back in the 1800s.

I talked to one of the bank tellers last week and she said it probably passed through as a nickel, which makes no sense because a large cent is even larger than a quarter.
