1844 Bank of Montreal Half Penny

After a dry spell got some luck today. Found this half penny (my first) at the base of a big tree. This park is a small green bordered by churches of similar age as the coin. Have been there before and never got anything old there. I think the park was hammered hard and basically pretty much gave up on it. Went in there and cranked the LTD to 85 sense. Low this was only 2 inches deep and right up against a large root, as careful as I was I nicked it. It had such a large signature I almost passed it by as I imagine others have. Ive noticed sometimes when I up the sense on the LTD it finds more stuff, yes deeper, but also more shallower that Ive missed with less sens, is that possible? That year was a common issue, but for its age its in better shape than old coins I usually find up here.Ten minutes before the coin, I got the 925 Fear Not, silver ring , it is a mans and very hefty. Odd thing was I was mding my way home from an out of town job and only had 20 mins to try at this park. I got renewed spirit now. Good Hunts all, CO

Great finds. Love the Half Penny. I run at 85 sen. most of the time. It is just before the internal hum comes in and tones seem nice and crisp. Very nice saves! HH jim tn

That is a very very cool coin.I always hunt around old trees,I think the roots actually push the coins up over time. Most all the old coins I find around big old trees arnt very deep....hh rick in mi.

Curt that's a nice copper!!

I usually run my F75 LTD/SE sensitivity as high as I can, 80's - 90's, but it can be overwhelming if there's any EMI present.

HH,
Brian
