180 Mod on Sovereign Elite

Bad Brad

New member
I am interested in knowing more about the benefits of the 180 Mod on a Sovereign Elite vs the standard 550 meter. Also, where are the instructions to the mod?

Thanks in advance.

Many feel the 180 mod makes the meter more stable and useful, but there are some hold outs out there who love the 550 range and swear it helps them to split hairs on targets even further. I've been thinking of a compromise somewhere in between the two on a homemade meter....The stability of the 180 but with the resolution of a 550 so to speak. I find the resolution of the 180 meter to already be a step above just about anything on the market. The scale is expanded on a Sovereign over it's entire range, except for everything above a copper penny which gets crunched into the 180 (or 550) number. The only machine I've used with more resolution is the Explorer (with the ferous/non-ferous numbers), but I found that to have to high of scale and resulted in jumpy IDs even on good targets and making sense of ring/tab patterns much harder. Machines with lower resolution than the Sovereign for me don't have enough scale to split hairs on some targets well such as rings. Interestingly enough, the M6/MXT have slightly lower resolution than the Sovereign and yet are know just like it to be great gold ring machines when using that to avoid trash. I feel the Sovereign is even better, and of course is much deeper and will handle ground minerals.
