Hi all, I have a question about the 180 meter an the 550 meter . could some one please tell me what the differents is between these two meters?
And is one better than the other? I have a sov.GT with a 180 meter and I just got a sov.elite with 550 meter. would it be better to upgrade the 550 meter to 180 or leave it as is? any imformation would be apreciated .

THANKS TOMMY

I've had both and IMO there is no advantage of upgrading to a 180 if you already have one of the later 550 meters. They are basically the same other than the width of the scale used. Some of the early 550 meters were known for being a bit less stable (Numbers wouldn't lock in quite as well).

Thanks for that imfo ZOFCHAK , that really helped me out the 550 meter is the later model (2005) .
well THANKS again

With the 550 meter you more have to work with a small range of numbers on a given target but with the 180 you can often count on one number. 180 meter is easier to use and work with because of that.

Tommy, the 550 has 3 times the resolution of the 180.Yes you can separate more targets mostly harder to get rid of screw tabs and other thrash. Will it tell the difference from a clad dime and a silver dime? No, but a 550 will open up a park with tons of high 180 meter readings screw tabs.I had good experience with the 550 in these old city parks sorting through thrash. The 180 meter is a lot more stable and less complicated and most hunters prefer this advantage. For those building their own 180 meters from ohm meters if you go from 20 to 2000 on the dial set the meter will read 1800.With the 1800 meter you actually read it as 180.0 even though there is no decimal.Example 1798 would be read 179.8 most difficult screw tabs 1780-1789 or 178.0-178.9.With this setting only the last digit is bouncing around. The plus and minuses of this meter, bounces more than the 180, but has a higher resolution and doesn't bounce as much as the 550 and is still read like a less complicated 180 meter.HH Ron
