18.75kHz coil question

Maxx

New member
I'm going over to Northern Ireland in September and will be detecting on ploughed fields. I want to purchase a HF coil, hoping to find hammered coins.Which coil would be better the 5x10 DD 18.75kHz or the 10.5" round 18.75 kHz.

You may want to double check, but I don't think that the 10.5" round coil is 18.75khz. I think it operates at 7.5khz.
I have the round coil and like it alot, but can't advice you which one would be the best for your future hunt.

They make the 10.5" round DD coil in both 7.5 kHz and 18.75 kHz. And, they make the elliptical 5" X 10" DD in 18.75 kHz only. I have both the 10.5" round DD at 18.75 kHz and the 5" X 10" Elliptical DD at 18.75. In my soil conditions, I get much better depth out of the round DD coil. Separation is close to the same with each coil, as is sensitivity. If the mineralization requires the use of a DD coil, I'd choose the round one. (I do find it heavier to swing than the elliptical or the 9" concentric) If the mineralization doesn't require the use of a DD coil, and I planned on hunting all day, I would opt for the 18.75 kHZ concentric. Looks like I'm going to get the 10.5" round 18.75kHz DD coil for the ploughed fields. I already have the 7.5kHz DD for pasture fields as it gets better depth.

The 18.75 DD coil will be the best bet.I'm in scotland and the ground round here is highly mineralised, so if where your going is anything like here the DD will cope better.
It is also a very sensitive coil and will have you digging for the smalest of targets, but however if you are going into heavy stuble or rape fields i would suggest the 18.75 eliptical which can get around the stalks and stiff stubble easier.
Enjoy your stay,
Andy.
