18.75 5x10 Coil, Anyone? Good & Bad?

Just picked one up to give it a try. Tell me your stories, depth? Stabilty? I hope that it is kinda like the Whites 6x10 for the MXT, great coil by the way!!! Yea, I have a 6" 18.75, but would like a little more coverage. I liked the MXT coil to explore sites and then if I started to pick up signals on the "fringe", I would switch to the 10.5DD to go in for the depth!!!!

I like the coil. But the 6 DD has been more profitible for me I think. I Have dug a fair share of my wheat with the 5x10.

If you look at the 5x10" DD/HF Coil and the 6" DD/HF Coil - Visible Differences by Nero Design, and X-Terra 70 tips and tricks- Des Dunne, Field Application Specialist, Minelab International you will find some good comparisons.

I can hunt faster with the 5x10. I think the faster search is because the 5x10 can be swung at a faster pace, not just the length. Compared to the stocker I can pinpoint better and faster and can fish coins out of trash. For me those fringe signals are most likely deeper nails, so far. I am getting more confident at determaining iron though. I have tested in the back yard and show the 5x10 as deeper but the FAQ sugests it should be the other way around. However I tested on a jar lid not gold. So inconclusive at best. I believe I get similar depths in the field on coins and nails

Runs good in my neighborhood and sometimes is deeper than the stocker because of soil condition.

Bottom line here is I am still learning!

They're both good coils. Same frequency, same DD design and similar width. The 6-inch is waterproof and the elliptical is water resistant. Which one is better for you depends what you want to do with it. In comparing the 18.75 kHz elliptical DD to the 6-inch DD at the same frequency, I find the depth very similar, target separation better with the 6-inch and the elliptical covers more ground with each sweep. If the reason you bought it was for more coverage, you'll probably like it. JMHO HH Randy

Yea Randy, I would say it will be for more coverage. Just need a coil that I can swoop in and cruise with. When I had my MXT, the 6x10 was the only coil I used for general detecting. I guess I'm like a Golfer, I choose my club for the terrain I'm gonna run!!!:bouncy:

I like the 5 x 10. One of my favorites. Light weight, easy to swing, good coverage and I'm partial to the DD coil if conditions allow. Easier to pinpoint and in my opinion, an all around good coil.
