17_7 coin?

Dodqe

New member
Found this copper in my back yard yesterday.... The date looks like 17_7. Either 1787 or 1737. Also the letters that I can see on it are 'NDI' on one side, and 'CO' on the other.
Any ideas?

ndi...maybe INDIA or INDUSTRY, co maybe Hudson Bay Co?

Looks like a early colonial token maybe, nice find

1787 Connecticut Copper Draped Bust Facing Left

type that into ebay under coins and see what you think

That's close, but the 'nde' is on the left...

The coin OJM shows isn't the coin I'm talking about.

Could be 'nde'. Hard to tell if it's an I or an E.
Everything looks right for that last image you posted, Ojm.
Looks like Dave got it. Thanks!

BTW, this is the third 1700's coin I've found here. I assume there was a house or building of some sort on my property. Way cool! :)

AWESOME coin!! Congrats on your 18th century copper!

TY!
I found two more tonight... My back yard is loaded! :-D

I'm going to post pics of all the 1700's I've found so far in the Metal Detecting Forum. Working on uploading the pic now! Check 'em out! :bouncy:

Im Jealous! Most of us can't even dig holes right now unless we use a pick axe. lol Plus about 60% of the country here in the US only dates back to 1820's-1830's and even that was slowly settled and with very little money carried by settlers. I live in Mo and my oldest US coin is an 1828 LC and the area was still considered Indian Terr. until 1821.

Keep hunting that site even when you think its hunted out, No telling how many coins are deeper and don't show up well. Dig those really faint signals that seem like junk or foil. The further from the coil the junkier they sound.

Try rubbing the coin with oily fingers, the lettering should stand out more. I can see the bottom leg of the E after ND, so it's not NDI.

That was already found in the post about 7 posts up by ojm bc, The last pic posted.

Aarong81, your comment of "junkier" has me questioning the ablility of the 3030. Seems like this was the same iffy type sounds that used to be commented about the Etrac, which I have also. Not to bash Minelab, cause I certainly am a big supporter. But with the marketing and all the release hype of the 3030, I was under the impression that this new machine was going to take all that away. As most posted, stable numbers on deep targets. I'm not sure thats what we actual have yet. Sorry for those that take offense to this statement. But if you really think about the posts regarding signals and tones, alot mention or refer to bad signals and keeper targets. Anyone else feel this way. or is it just me? HH, Mike

I can't find any reference to a 3030 in any of the comments. I'm not bashing your detector, I've never even used one like it. I'm referring to every detector on the market as none of them will always positively ID a "DEEP" target before digging it. The deep targets I'm suggesting that you dig are week iffy signals and if your putting much stock into advertizements it won't matter what anyone else says. They will rarely, if ever, show up on the detector as what they actually are. Some of the deep targets will only offer a faint noise with absolutely no visible ID on the screen but each manufacturer will vary as to what they display on screen. And so far I havn't even factored in any trash or high ground mineralization which will cause false ID before digging, hense "dig junky signals". Just helping out but advertizements sound good too.

I dig everything non-ferrous. I've been using a Goldmaster II. Old school, and apparently piss-poor (from what I've read and heard) at finding anything other than gold.
I'm getting a $500 bonus at work next Monday or Tuesday. I'm starting my research tonight and will be buying a proper freq machine for coins shortly after I get that cash. I'm thinking along the lines of a Garrett Ace 250, a DD coil, and use the rest for extras, or an Ace 350 and a sniper coil plus extras. I can't wait to see what I can find with that!

Any suggestions? I'm in moderately mineralized soil most of the time, lots of hot rocks (I live 1/4 mile from 'Iron Mountain'). I haven't done any beach searching, and don't plan on it. I do think I will be trudging through the woods a lot. I go sllloooowww and grid off the search area, and I have been teaching myself to overlap my swings. I prefer listening to the audio over watching the meter...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Aarong, I thought I was in a Minelab 3030 Forum as usual. I guess I was checking this forum and forgot when I made the comment. But anyway, it does apply to the theory I have about my new machine. Anyway, good luck. THX

Ya I do that too when I'm checking in and out of the MXT forum, easy to forget which one I'm in. But you did convince me to look at the CTX 3030 and it looks nice but pricey! It has some fancy bells and whistles but some of the real expensive sparkles on it have nothing to do with finding targets such as GPS, built-in wireless and the 6 disc cd changer......jk about the cd changer. lol
