1798 Large Cent + Indian Head

For about a year now I've been hunting around a house that we thought was built in the mid 1800's. Up to this point I've had very little luck finding anything of interest. Yesterday I decided to move to the front of the house near where the original front walkway had been and I found a US 1798 Large Cent, and a 1901 Indian Head penny! The large cent is in very poor shape, but the back of the penny looks remarkably good. If anyone knows how I might clean up the large cent without ruining it, please let me know.

Cool finds there...any time you can read the dates on 1700 coppers your doing good...they seem to have a build up of lime on them...i would soak them in olive oil a few weeks and go from there...

Congratulations on entering the 1700's club! Yep go with BHpa's advice on soaking the coin in olive oil.
