1797 cartwheel penny. ..from the water

Fairly worn...basically very very worn. Appears to be a 1797 cartwheel uk penny. Can make out the 7 (not clear in photo.) Found today at a local beach. A fairly unusual find for NZ. No gold however ; (. Just 1 silver ring.

That is a strange find over in NZ,the are a fair old size coin and they only ever had the date stamp of 1797,stand to be corrected but i also think they weighed exactly 1oz in weight,have found a few of them over here in the UK but they are rare to find in decent condition as most come up like yours.The 2d Cartwheel penny as i understand it was even larger.

They are a nice coin to find,very well done,i guess it must have been dropped when a trader was visiting NZ from the UK.

Thanks Mega B for your comments - I have a 2d coin that was handed down to me - this is like a 'mini' version, (but not so mini) - yes a very cool find. Found after a storm in an eroded section on the beach, it is terribly worn, but definitely that coin. No real value but a very cool find!

Can you imagine having a few of those in your pocket,your trolleys would end up around your ankles due to the weight,and trolleys is a slang London way of saying trousers just incase you could not understand what i was saying
