1729-1739 Georgivs II

Went out with my son on Saturday to an old foundation that we both have hit early silver. This place is in the woods grown up around it and has alot of trash scattered about. We only had about and hour and a half to hunt not including travel time but these places still call me back. This time I was using the 12" x 15" SEF and figured I would get alot of nulling due to the size of the coil and all of the trash under it, but that experimenting side of me said go for it. Well after about an hour of finding a broken spoon and various nails/junk I got a great signal along the stone wall at 12-35. Most of those are buttons or IH for me. The signal was registering about 3-4". I knelt down with the Lesche and cut a plug in the rooted dirt. Dropped in the Propointer and hit this coin at only 3" deep. At first that puzzled look on my face must have been priceless, 12-35 for a Large Copper. I could tell right away that it was slightly smaller than the other 7 that I have found this year. So I pocketed it and kept going. Another 30 minutes and we headed home. At home I gently brushed it off and saw the left facing bust. I had a suspicion that it was a King George and had looked it up on the computer. It looks like a "young head" Georgivs II. The back is toast so no date. Looks like they were made from 1729-1739, my oldest copper yet. A nice short hunt pays off. HH Mick

Congrat's on a great find !

I found one just like it in Maine last summer - similar condition to yours - no date on it - but enough detail for a positive ID.

Very cool find. Thanks for posting it.

Nice Finds! Congratulations!!!

Wow! We haven't seen a 1700's coin found in a while....unless I missed it. Thanks for the picture.
