~1700's KG copper..Amazing SLQ Silver...From the Curb Strip~

Today I broke my slump in a BIG way. BadJim met me at 7am for some more curb strip hunting. We hit an old section of town. First curb....FIRST target was a 12-41 on my etrac...about 4" deep, a classic wheat penny signal. But boy was I wrong! Cut the plug flipped it open and I saw big copper! Never in a million yrs did I dream I would EVER get a 1700's KG copper in my town.
I can't read the date, can someone narrow down the mintage years for this design for me? This is now my oldest coin ever, last year I dug a 1773 Virginia Half Penny....I believe this coin is older than that..hope I am right.

The very next house's curb, I get a shallow 12-46, 47 reading, which I assume is a clad quarter just under the grass....WRONG again! I stuck my digger in the ground and just pushed the dirt up and out came a silver quarter, what a shock, and it turned out being a beautiful 1929 SLQ, best one I have ever dug.

A lil while late I nabbed the silver rosie and 3 wheats......and a bunch of clad. Absolutely a great day, I am on cloud nine!

Best I can tell Terry it is a George II which would make it between 1727-1760 it is most likely a farthing or half penny from the looks of the reverse you can tell by size and weight nice hunt Terry and Jim wow that is some kind of curb strips you have up there!

"GEORGIVS" Farthing dimensions

Diameter: 23,00 mm
Weight: 5,30 gr
Copper

Legend "GEORGIVS" Half Penny dimensions
Diameter: 30,00 mm
Weight: 10,30 gr
Copper

Yep........that's a doozy alright...............I believe the SLQ was the BEST designed coin ever in my opinion.

Nice digs........Hawkeye Jim.

SO EXCITING:hot:

I feel it way over here in WNY

I believe your SLQ is the most Beautiful example I have ever seen!

just for curiousity, what do you think that SLQ would grade at? couple guys mentioned AU-50 range, what do you think?

Wow the SLQ has all her chain mail and looks like a full head; SWEET!!! Wish we had those old coppers down here in Louisiana. Nice finds as usual!!

Outstanding finds Goes4ever! Cool Colonial and what a sweet SLQ! Who knows what else lies in those curb strips... It's as if Lady Liberty has been standing on the curb waiting for a ride since '29. I bet she's happy now that YOU picked her up!!! Great job

Congratulations Terry !! That is the nicest SLQ I have seen that has been dug. No chance of finding big copper like that around here. Will have my E-trac on Friday and I can't wait to see how it will perform in some of this Texas dirt.

Finding a copper like that in my town is about as rare as getting struck with lightning.....so never say u will never find one....it is over 100 yrs older than my town....how did it get there?

Congratulations on your 'new' oldest Terry. Thanks for the pictures. I hope you don't get struck by lightning.

Nice, nice finds Terry, if only those coins could speak, the stories they could tell...

Wow Terry, when you break a dry spell, YOU BREAK A DRY SPELL!! What a combo. That standing liberty is almost perfect condition and you got a 1700's coin to boot.

Big congrats on the great hunt! That SLQ is possibly the best looking one I have ever seen, and I am sure it felt good to find silver again. And the KG copper is an amazing find.

That is a great SLQ! It is indeed AU but what is REALLY nice is that it has a full head strike. I've seen MS-60s~MS-64s
that do not look as great as yours.

Now off the subject... are you considering getting a CTX 3030?

well I am considering it, but my checkbook won't let me

A lot of people don't believe it's possible to dig silver coins as nice as your standing liberty quarter. The King George copper is an amazing find. Shoot, I like the silver Rosie too!

Very nice finds Goes!!.....As much as I am impressed with the condition of the SLQ I will have the say that copper was treated pretty nicely in your soils too. I find a whole lot here in NY that look like slugs. Keep up the fine diggin' HH Joe
