1700's farmhouse help

Hey all! After a long time off and using my Ex2 previously for 10+ yrs I decided to move up to the 3030. I recently acquired permission to detect at an 1860's homestead in my town as well as a 1711 homesite which is still standing. I've been playing around with the standard programs and have found my share of trash as well as 1900's artifacts and coins, but i'm not finding anything beyond that. I intend on attending an upcoming Andy S. CTX class but until then any recommendations on settings/patterns would be appreciated. It is entirely possible that both properties have already been detected but each owner has stated that not to be the case while they've owned it. I have spent hours reading the sticky's and forum posts I'm simply looking for ideas from people who have been in this situation before. I have yet try the 17" coil but now that some of the trash is gone I might give it a go. Anyway, sorry for the long rant, but thanks in advance for the help. HH

I’d defenatly try the 17. If there’s not too much trash go with one of the more open relic programs and go slow , stock programs are a good , just build and adjust if needed.

Most old sites simply dont have that many old coins buried there. Think about how many people worked for a few cents a day. They didnt have coins in their pockets to lose. Even people with money, didnt carry it around all the time and coins were often carried in coin purses. If something was lost, people would spend hours looking for it. Just because a place is old does not equal a ton of old coins.

Thx guys. I'm definitely going to try the 17". I understand what Jason is saying but I've always done well on old homesites in the past with my Ex2, so maybe this is the law of averages equaling things out. Time will tell..

If you are new to the 3030, make sure you are digging everything that reads above your bottom-right iron corner. Learning the quirks to say "iron false" or "super deep coin" can take time. Look up some youtube videos for deep coin signals with the CTX to help. in the mean time, dig everything that squeeks.
