17 Silvers, 65 Wheats!! 1 Productive Park!!

Hello My Friends!!

There hasn't been much diversity in my treasure hunting in the past few weeks. The reason for this is that I've pretty much been detecting one park, which has produced exactly 50 silver coins, and about 300 wheats in my last 11 hunts there. Nothing too spectacular(it's a '30's-'40's era park), but it's what I enjoy doing, which is looking for 7" to 9+" coinage in trashy, mineralized ground. All my hunts were with the 11" Pro Coil, which pretty much stays on my SE all the time.

To give you a perspective of old coinage productivity for me since I started detecting again back in July (6 months now), about 120 of my 186 silver coin finds this year have come from just 4 different parks. Typically, I've been hunting twice a week. Having to drive nearly 100 miles round trip to parks has me limited to the frequency of my weekly outings. I think with a little more research, I might be able to "test the waters" at a few other turf spots within a 30 mile radius of my home. Plus, with all this rain we're expected to get in the next 5-6 days, heavily pillaged turf spots may give up a few more oldies after the rain lets up. We'll see what happens... :detecting:

Thanks for looking!!

A great amount of silver and wheats, like usual! Thank you for taking the time to post, I always enjoy reading them, even more so now that the ground here in Ohio is frozen!

Nice haul. Great job on your homework.

I think depression is setting in for a lot of you, now that you have to hang up your detectors for the Winter!!

Looks like I'm not going to get out until late next week....it's raining cats and dogs over here...supposed to be like this for the next 5-6 days!!! :rage:

Nice finds there Dan.:clapping: Wouldn't it be nice if we all had a couple of parks like that all to ourselves. Good luck on your next outing and I'm sure there are some more coins waiting there for you. HH.

"Nothing too spectacular"??....anything that shines at the bottom of the hoile is spectacular:thumbup:. I don't care if it is a 1964 roosey...it still puts a big smile on my face.

Good group of finds Dan:clapping:

You have done well Dan and thanks for your post.
We aren't getting the rain that you guys are getting,
but we got plenty of the wet stuff. When you dig a
plug, search fast for the target because the hole fills
with mud and water. Probably the same in your area?
HH and dont throw your pontoons away....LOL

The merc with the date cut off was probably a 1916D in XF condition. :ranting:

Thanks, Born2Hunt, Eddie, Bryce, Richard, ksabubba!!

Looks like the rain is finally starting to subside here....It's the most rain in a 7 day period that I've seen in S. Cal in a long, long time. The ground is super-saturated. I was driving through a local park a couple of days ago (not detecting, it was raining cats and dogs) and there were at least 3 trees completely uprooted. The ground must have been very soft.

ksabubba, I've pretty much been using the same settings with my Pro Coil since I purchased it....Remember, I detect park turf, and have found the best performance in my ground here using the following settings....Here they are:

Sounds: Conductive
Discrimination: A simple Iron Mask of around 27-28.
Threshold: barely audible
Gain: 8
Sensitivity: 20-25, manual, depending on ground conditions and above/underground EMI.
FAST/DEEP: Both OFF
Threshold tone: 5
Variability/Limits/Volume: all max'ed to 10

Settings are secondary. Putting in the hours out in the field digging many, many signals of varying tones, in addition to learning the proper hunting style with your Minelab will payoff big time!! A good pair of sensitive ears is also a must!!

I just wonder by turning both deep and fast off if that would increase the recovery speed. I have found on the Explorer its a little slow

Nice finds Dan! Thanks for sharing them with us and the pictures too. I have to laugh because it seems like every time I see a picture of some of your finds there's an old cut up coin in there somewhere. I enjoy seeing your finds from California and congratulations on that park.
