17 inch coil, ML harness, Merc, war nickels, rings!

Got the 17 incher for my CTX and the new harness so I strapped them both on and headed out to give them a try. I like the new harness, but it does seem to be a little hot...at least when its 95 degrees out anyway. It definitely distributes the weight of the machine and I was able to stick with the 17 incher for the entire day. As far as the 17 inch coil goes; what a beast. You can certainly cover some ground with it. It think the separation is pretty good also for such a large coil, but the area I was in is not very trashy. I also was able to pinpoint very well with it, so I think it's a keeper. I got into a little silver hot spot and then it dried up. I got the first war nickel, then on the next pass got the Merc and the CTR ring, and then about 15 feet further got the second war nickel. Later on in the day I went to another spot and picked up the second Sterling ring and an apothecary weight. I also got 6 wheats, one from 1916 and the other 5 all were in the 40s. Here's some pics:

Thanks for looking and I hope you were successful if you got out today.

Nice finds! I have been thinking about the 17" lately but I would probably have to get a harness as well. How deep were those targets? Curious as I have a site(also very large area) that has been filled that has some good targets DEEP. I can get them sometimes with pro-coil if I crank up sensitivity.

I had the 17" coil in mind when thinking about purchasing the harness. I'm getting ready to head out for a long weekend of detecting. I got my harness all set up and will be using it heavily over the next few days.

I've only used my 17" coil at the beach and without a harness. I used it two days in row for about 4 to 5 hours each time and it took me 4 days for my arm to recover . Last time out was for about 4 hours and my arm wasn't too bad. Got a lot of coins that maxed out the depth gauge. You better have a shovel if your digging in dirt

Thanks. One of the wheats was at 9 inches. The Merc was 8 and the two nickels were at about 6. Everything else was at my "normal" range of about 3-5 inches. We have a hard packed layer of clay out here that's usually down around 8 inches so it's rare to find super deep targets. With that in mind, I bought the 17 incher to help cover large areas at a faster rate. It definitely does that, but it also appears to amplify the deeper targets well. I had been over the area where the nickels were before with the stock coil. If I got a signal it wasn't strong enough for me to notice. For what you're wanting to use it for I think you'll be pleased.

Some nice silver there,congrats!

Great review!

Nice finds MJ, the 17" coil has been wearing me out, so I ordered the harness last week from Big Boy's Hobbies.
