17 coil???

Recently got the 17 but havent tried it yet. I was wondering, since it reportedly has 2 inches more of depth, would a 8" dime with an iffy signal be cleared up and rind loud with the 17? Any comments or specific knowledge on this one?
Thx

You are the one with the coil.. You tell us... Things to consider.. Larger coils tend to be less sensitive to smaller objects.. In open ground with no other detectable objects around you may get 2" more depth on a larger coin, say a quarter , half dollar, dollar, large cent etc but Little or no increase in depth on a smaller object like a dime. Throw in some other objects to to mask the good target and depth with the 17 may be less than a smaller coil and you may not detect the good target at all . A 6" coil is often 2" or more deeper than the stock coil on mask targets... How about a 8" dime with iron all around it.. The 6" coil gets it with a broken signal, the stock coil and the 17" don't get it at all, so the 6" coil is 8" deeper.... On, your example, the 17" may clean it up or lose it all together depending on circumstances...wildherre

I used my 17" coil really for the first time yesterday. Used it in a park on a hill side It gave me gout... Boy is that thing heavy. I limped to another park (a flat one)
It seems to hit coins pretty good. I did notice digging clad more then once It would say 3

I considering to get one, keep posted. I have one old resort closed to public, but I have access to it. I use my stock coil and found barber dime at about 10" deep. On beach stock coil performs not bad today I recover dime at 15" in wet sand. one thing I didn't figure out I get one signal and then I start dig it out read out start changes, like today I have read out 11:12 and after dig half way read out changes to 1:28, any thoughts?

Since I hunt mostly beaches, I will choose a large coil for more coverage every time. That is just my preference, and I ordered a 17" coil a couple of days ago. I have hunted a highly mineralized beach a couple of times recently and am picking up older coins that are 10" and deeper with the 11" coil. Since the sand is hard at this beach, most items don't sink as deep as they do at soft sand beaches. By older coins, I mean coins in the 40's and ones that are hard to recognize because they have been buried and moved around for so long. Since there haven't been any real storms recently to stir things up, the extra depth of the CTX is welcome.

I recently ran my 17" coil on some Florida beaches. I liked the coverage and depth was in the 12-15" range on coins but that's what was there the days I used it. In areas free of trash like the wet sand and even the dry in places the 17 is a good coil. I'll use for Cache hunting also. Pinpointing is a bit tougher but I just kick the sand around until I have it isolated and then used pinpointer. I was impressed with some of the tiny pieces it picked up = good sesitivity on small objects.

Weight is an issue but I used a harness with the 17" and this way I can hunt all day.

Not an everyday coil but great for the beach.

Hi, I have the 17 Inch coil and find the weight tiresome,

Can you share with me the type of harness you have set up, Even a few pics would be great

I am going to get one soon but just for coverage, not any more depth. Don't get me wrong i'll take the extra depth. I just not buying for that reason. I hunted with another hunter with the 17in and we checked targets and he never found one I couldn't hear with the 11in
