1640 Dutch Lion Dollar

I hit the beach early this morning and after digging pretty much next to nothing and a bunch of junk fishing rigs. I hear a nice loud high tone and about a foot deep out pops this 1640 Dutch Lion Dollar. I couldnt believe it I thought I found a keeper until I saw the C at the end of the date... Oh well.

Lovely find even for Dutch standards. Congratulations. Although not uncommon they fetch good prices on auctions. From the other side you can determine in which province or city the coin was minted. Can you post a pic of that side?

The Leeuwe Daalder was used as an international currency and traveled the globe with the rise of the Dutch VOC trading company, the first multinational ever. The silver content and weight gave lots of confidence for trading and due to the inscription on edge/pearl string clipping was quickly recognized.

I think the C stands for Copy

No worries, the "C" is part of the inscription: confidens. Check out these links.
