15x12" SEF Butterfly Search Coil

Anyone use the 15x12" SEF Butterfly Search Coil on thr t2 ltd se? I am thinking about buying one but can't find much info on it. I thought it might be a good nugget coil.

I do use the SEF15x12 coil on my T2,albeit only for special sites, due to its size it is mainly used on clean pasture site or i have used in only clean ploughed and rolled sites as well.

They are a big coil and not what i would consider a coil for small items like nuggets or that size item, they are reasonably good for single coins but dont expect a massive improvement on depth with coins if at all, they come into play on bigger deeper items and best suited for say cache or locating deep hoards, this is the type of detecting these coils had been mainly made for.

As a result of them being so big i tend too use a harness as they can take a toll fatigue wise after a while, pinpointing i found was pretty good and also the discrimination on a coil so big is reasonable as well,of course the bigger a coil is you do stand the chance of missing decent finds as they could null if you have 2 items under the coil at the same time. This is why its best suited to clean non trashy sites like pasture or a site that has been cleared after years of detecting with a normal stock coil, then a bigger coil will go much deeper.

I am on a roman villa site tomorrow and could well use this big SEF coil.

Thanks Mega B for the reply. The place I am going to has some very large nuggets. I am talking several ounces but they are found very deep. People that are finding these nuggets use very large coils.

Ok,if they are that large then i guess you wont have any problems, but as soon as you mentioned nuggets your mind automatically thinks of the small stuff as nuggets of several ounces must be alot harder to find.Cannot add any extra advice as we dont have any gold nuggets over here in the UK,but we do have other decent treasure's which can also be deep.

Good luck in your quest in nugget hunting

I do not own a T2 but I do use an SEF 10X12 on my White's MX5. It gets incredible depth and ID is spot on. Definitely can see it being a killer on a T2!!

I use a 15"-12" SEF on my T2se. It's deep & covers a lot of ground. For a big coil it still finds the smallest buttons. I dug a Williams type two cleaner bullet @ 13" with that set up. I've found two half reals with it also. You don't have to worry about loss of sensitivity to small targets. It'll drive you nuts until you learn to size things before you dig. Its one of my go to relic & old coin set ups. The only thing is its heavy. Good luck & HH TIM
