Here is proof that you can still find a diamond ring at the beach, even though summer is over and the massive crowds are not present.
I just received my new 15" x 18" SEF coil from Kellyco and was anxious to give it a try in the sand with my Explorer SE. The area that I have been working has produced some very nice finds in the past and gets detected by many people. It does not take long after summer is over to deplete the good finds. As I approached the sand today, I noticed something different about it. A large bulldozer had pushed tons of sand from one zone to another in order to smooth out the area. My first thought was that all the targets were going to be covered up! But then the idea came to mind that maybe some new targets would be exposed!!
Well, I fired up the Explorer SE with my new SEF 15" x 18" coil and was ready for whatever might happen. My first impression of the large coil was how easy it was to swing. Yes, it does have more weight than a smaller coil. But the weight can be virtually neutralized by using a Kellyco metal detector harness. With a harness set-up, you can swing this coil for many hours and really cover some ground. The coil has a crisp response to targets and has fantastic depth. Target ID is great and pinpointing is right on the money, dead center.
I decided to grid the area and started to pick up some clad coins along with the usual pieces of trash (bottle caps, pull tabs and foil). After detecting for a half hour in the bulldozed area I got a nice low tone signal and was hoping that this was the target I was looking for. At around 6" down, out comes this beautiful 1/3 karat diamond ring. My heart skipped a beat for a moment as I savored the adrenalin rush. I finished detecting the bulldozed area and headed home to clean the ring.
What a fine day of detecting and I'm sure glad to have purchased the 15" x 18'" SEF coil. It is going to increase my overall finds dramatically.
