15"WOT or the S-12 on my excal??

Ive used both and the WOT is a bit deeper and heavier so depends if you can swing a larger coil and are willing to dig deeper. Both are about the same on smaller targets.

No expert here, but have been detecting the Beach for about 8 years now. I have had the 15" WOT on my Excal for 7 of those years and love it, have never taken it off. The 15" coil gives you awesome sweep coverage and even though it's big, it can pinpoint very, very small objects. I have routinely dug up pieces of brass/copper that were no larger than my pinky nail, and smaller. It is a "Hot" coil.

Just my 2 cents,
Aloha,

I guess it depends on how often your Excal nulls on the beaches you hunt. If you don't have a masking issue I would run as big as I could. The WOT still retains a sensitivity to small gold. That is very important. I have used both. The WOT is heavier. But I chest mount so it isn't as bad as it could be. The Sunray coils are fine coils. You can't lose either way.

I had the 15 WOT.....that is like swinging a trash can lid in the water. I presently have the 12" SunRay..........it is lighter, slender and glides through the water with ease. Both perform very well, it is just a matter of how tired you will get with the larger coil.

Connector I use, Bulgin 400 series Buccaneer, may want to check out pratts also. This is the smallest of all connectors for changing out coils..IP68, they have solder pins, and crimp also.

I would go with the S-12 if you are going to use it in the water. I have the WOT and it is great for dry sand and large areas. But it has a problem with salt waters edge and is a bit touchy when not using the right settings on the Excal. I use the WOT in the water and it is nice but if you don't have strong arms, you will have trouble swinging it through the water. I also have trouble when first getting into the water as waves over the coil will set it off unlike the S-12 or the factory 8 or 10.

I think people have different results depending what part of the country they are using the Wot or the S-12 and of course if they are using it on the Sovereign or the Excalibur. You would be better off trying to find out what results other beach hunters have had using these search coils in your area.

got the WOT like it thanx i had no problems swingin it for 6 hours today
