Found this today at a park. Rang up 12-15 on my etrac good solid tone. 15.4g says 14k on it must be white gold??it was about 5 inches deep. Love the etrac. !!!

Hopefully it doesn't say "Italy" on the other side of the hasp.
So many of those chains turn out to be disappointments. Hope it's real.

That is true kenny. I also found another smaller chain. It was just plated gold tho. This 14k chain feels well made and heavy. Pretty happy with the etrac ;).

I guarantee that if you take a pair of side cutters and cut a link, it will show a copper core to the links...I have one that is almost like yours, and I was very disappointed...Too much of this "carnival trash" floating around.

HH,

Well it is scratched deep in a few places and color is same. But if it was copper wouldnt it have come up higher like 12-38 or higher?? It reads 12-15. 12-16. So i dont know. I will check it at a jeweler tomorrow.

Plating will make it read at the level of the plating as long as most of it is intact plus chains read erratic due to the individual links.
It doesn't look right to me but I hope I'm wrong.
Testing is the only way to be sure which is why I bought an acid test kit. Gold is actually easier to test for than silver.

You can test silver by putting a drop of clorine bleach on it, if the item turns black it is at least silver plated.....nge

Let us know what you find out. Either way I know two things. 1. You found it. 2. Its yours.

I do hope its gold as well. Thanks for the pictures.

Well had 2 diff jewelers test it. Its white gold over sterling silver. Still a good find in my book. They both said good quality and it had 1 repair done which is the rusty ring on the lasp.

Thanks. I learned something new. The gold on the chain gives it a gold reading. I thought the metal it was made from would give the numbers. I thought it was real gold because it was same color all the way thru. Well that is due to being sterling silver with gold plating. Oh well learn something new daily. ;)

I have found earrings marked .925/14k or 14kt/.925....nge

Yes I noticed the ring as well --good photo buy the way.
I have found several gold plated rings that read as what you would think was solid. Like an idiot I sold one in a garage sale without considering it was silver underneath but didn't have a test kit or want to file a groove in it at that time. Lots of times there will be a notation like 1/20 14k on plated referring to the amount of gold by weight an object contains. The gold in your chain is insignificant but you still have close to 1/2 oz. of Ag there---good find!
