14K Gold Ring....Come To Pappa!:clapping:

Goldstrike

Well-known member
My Minelab Safari was running hot today! I detected this sweet gold ring in a local park. I asked it if it wanted to stay in the ground for a few more years or come to Pappa and I'll give it a good home?:) Guess what? It said YES!! please take me home!!!!

Nice find, Thats a keeper:thumbup:

Good looking ring, and in good condition! It's amazing what you can find in those parks, congratulations. Thanks for sharing, HH.

SCORE! LOL come to Pappa, come to your Papa... Love the Gold, and I love me some Seger

I would have wet myself:rofl:

I would be thrilled to find a ring as beautiful as that one. I do have a couple of questions. Was it found in sand, like kids play area, or if in the grass, about how deep? I have a different detector than yours, so your numbers won't matter to me, but did it fall in the mid or upper can tab range or the zinc penny range? The reason I'm asking is I'm cutting down on beach hunting, (too many people with detectors on the beach, many times lately I've spent 3 or 4 hours detecting the wet and don't get so much as a single beep with a White's duel field, not even a nail or hair pin signal), so I'm going to try the parks, and I'm trying to learn from you park hunters. I have looked for change in the park, just didn't pay any attention to signals that weren't copper pennies or above. I did get a signal a few months ago on my Fisher cz--70 pro that read nickel 6 to 8 inches deep. I figured being that deep it would hopefully be an older nickel, but it ended up being my first and only gold ring from a park. Your ring is much bigger and thicker, that is why I'm trying to get an idea of what category it would fall in.

Thanks everyone!
O.L....thanks for asking those questions. Firstly, I would say I'm a beach hunter 80-85% plus of the time I can detect. I LOVE the beach 'experience' and although I've found some great targets in parks, give me a beach to detect every time and I'll be thrilled!! With great respect, I would question how and what time of the day your detecting on the beach's where you are. Your using some quality detectors and there is no reason why you shouldn't be detecting some awesome rings and jewellery off the beach. BTW...(Please see my comments on the 'Metal Detecting Forum' "Keeping A Good Perspective"). I would also add I don't know all there is to know and I'm still on the learning curve just like everyone else!
I found this particular ring close to where some sprinkler lines were put in about 5 years ago. It was close to the rear of the park and I'm guessing it was lost by one of the workers that worked on those lines. It was about 2 inches below ground. It registered 29-30 on my Safari with a nice low tone which is primarily why I dug it!! Zinc pennies would be around 35-36 and pull tabs depending on their shape and age (all pull tabs are not the same....that's why they register differently) are all over the chart but usually around 31 and under on a Safari.
Again, it may have been lost by anyone maybe playing soccer or catch with the kid's or? who knows. It pays to detect where any physical work or any activities have taken place and that applies to everywhere that's detectable.
I strongly feel that there is definitely a correlation between where you detect, how many hours you detect and how many junk targets you detect to the total count of the rings your retrieving. There is always an element of luck of course and in the end, gold is where you find it!
Next week, I'm staying at the beach for 5 solid days so I'm hoping to find some great gold and silver targets!!!! :clapping:G.L & H.H.

Thank you for your response, Goldstrike. Getting to the beach early is not a problem for me. I'm an old guy 71 and I usually go to bed around 8 p.m. and wake up around 3 or 4 in the morning, so I'm at the beach a little before they officially open at 5 a.m. I did stay up later than usual a couple of times and go down to the beach just to observe, and I saw people detecting, so I guess that's the reason I'm not finding much in the morning. The duel field is an excellent machine, I've found extremely thin pieces of wire only 1 or 2 inches long with it so I know it will find any gold if it is there, but a p I machine is just not fun for me. Finding every hairpin, screw or nail, pieces of wire and other pieces of iron trash is a time waster, while other people with their vlf machines, many with a meter, are ignoring the iron, their even leaving the zinc pennies for me to waste my time digging. I do have a machine I do love using at the beach, a Sovereign GT that I bought new 2 1/2 years ago, but it quit working about 3 months ago, and being on minimum social security, I'm trying to save the money to send it in so I can have it repaired. I love the multi tones, and I have the control box hip mounted so there is no weight and I can swing it all day, that's the one machine I really enjoy. I'm hearing impaired so I can't hear on a phone to call them to find out how much it will cost or their address to send it to, but I'm sure I've got enough money put away now, so I just have to get on the Sovereign forum and ask someone to find the address of the repair place. Over the last few years I have found 11 gold and 1 platinum ring, but most of them are the kind you buy at k-mart, not like that impressive ring you found at the top of this post, which is the reason I have been coming back to look at that picture every day for the past 5 days.

Old Lobo......I see what you mean now. Yes, using a P.I. machine will result in a lot more digging to see what's under the coil and for you and I with my sometimes bad back! (I'm 63 and falling apart as well)!!! some discrimination ability on your detector is welcomed!!
At the beach, most of the pro's say 'dig everything' but that's ok if your in your younger years and/or fit as a fiddle! The one thing most guy's at the beach will miss if you don't dig everything is chains but that's getting off the point here.
I get a thrill following other detectorists and finding something worthwhile so never, ever be deterred by seeing other guy's detecting because even the best detectorists will not find everything. I'm sure you'll get the info; regarding who and where and how much to fix your Sovereign if you do decide to go on that forum so best wishes with that and I hope to see you out there on the beach maybe following where I'm detecting and finding gold rings that I have missed!!!
P.s. I have learned a lot reading, studying and applying Andy Sabich's books and other proffessionals and also from past posts especially on the Beach and Water/Scuba Diving Detecting Forum so if your going to spend time on the beach, I would recommend scrolling through the past posts and picking up the great advice that is there.
