well the dry times make us , more exited when we find somthing good , I have been in a dry spell all summer and spring , and now looks like fall to . but every time you go out you get more proficient with your detector

Sometimes I try new unusual spots on a hunch and they are dead, sometimes so-so. The thing is you never know until you try. You take the good with the bad, but it is always exciting because you never know when you are gonna find something good. It's the excitement of the unkown that makes this hobby addicting and fun.

Excellant post....that's exactly what I was doing today, prospecting. Now when I drive by these little spots I checked today I know I've been there and they won't be bugging me anymore...lol NEXT TIME....!!!!!!!

size/type of search coil you were using (presuming you've got the Golden Sabre II in hand as shown at the bottom of your post)

I haven't had daily coin count recoveries that high from my favorite ghost towns since about '95/'96, and those were the much better days. But if you're talking about hunting typical urban locations, site selection can make a difference. It also matters whether you're located in a smaller populated area or a more major urban environment with more people to lose targets. I got back into the greater Portland , Oregon metro area yesterday (Wednesday), passing through on my way home.

I figured it was the last day of the month and I planned four stops for some quick detecting. Two parks were dry, and I mean thin pickings! The ground was too hard t make decent recoveries, and the woodchip playground was thin ... and not being used, just like most I have checked out daily this summer. Most typical areas were unproductive, but when things get that tough I concentrate on working closer to the metal structures and using a smaller-size search coil. Many targets are missed by people who do not hunt close to the metal equipment because they have' learned ho to do it efficiently. Doing that at two of the three locations was reasonably productive, nabbing good targets others just haven't.

The 4th site was one that I know gets a lot of neighborhood use. It is almost always going to kick out coins, but the darn pennies sure frustrated me. More, percentage wise, than usual. I was only able to hunt it for 10-15 minutes because I wanted to get back on the road for a long drive home. In that short time, however, it produced 9-quarters, 9-dimes, 7-nickels, and I gave up on pennies when that count hit 18. It used to be easy to get decent coin cunts in better urban areas, but the last 5-15 years it has really been dropping off, mainly because people are not out in the numbers they used to be.

Well, it's a new months and I just finished lunch so I think I'll put this laptop away and go chase up some coins to start August.

Best of success to you on your next trips afield. I hope you can chance onto some more-productive locations.

Monte

By the way, I usually use 6

Thanks guys and thank you Monte for the tip. PS..... I'm way out in Podunk Montana, live near town (county seat) that is only 1,200 people. We don't even have a city park. Coins are there but come slow as fewer people but on the other hand less competition and folks may be a bit more friendly which may help in scoring the occaisional private property (scored another yard tonight).
