13x17 OR 9x14

I would like to hear some opinions about why you would chose the Minelab 13"x17" over the Coiltek 9"x14" OR vice versa. I know the Coiltek coil is 2 oz. heavier and the foot print isn't as big as the Minelab, but are there any other reasons to pick one over the other? Thanks

I've been scratching my head about the size of the Coiltek since it came out. Since it is the general consensus that width is associated with depth, I'm not sure why they didn't crank out a 15" round coil...someone stated this before and I concur. An 8" round coil would also probably be more what people want, but that's just MHO.
With all that said, you couldnt ever pry my 17" coil from my hands, it's a coin finding ANIMAL!

In all honesty , I think Minelab gave Coiltek the okay to build after market coils for the CTX and Coiltek is now faced with the dilemma of trying to create a market for their overpriced products by trying to shoe horn coils in between the already very serviceable coils that Minelab offers. The 5 x 10 is equally mysterious as it falls between the stock and 6" with marginal differences to justify the cost , especially when it too is as heavy as it's closest Minelab counterpart. Minelab probably only ceded Coiltek a niche in the market so they could not compete directly with the factory coils.

I suspect all of the logic behind the size of the Coiltek coils for the CTX are corporate financial and have nothing to do with performance.

I really like the 13 x 17 for the beach, but like most folks, I'm patiently waiting for some user reviews on the new Coiltek.
