1350 Help

Hi All,
I,ve been very close to getting the 1350. But I'm not sure about what I've been reading here on the forum. They say the 1350 is about the same as the 1500 only with a few less features. Also I read were the 1350 gives up some depth to the 1500 ? How can this be when the specs say they have the same dsp and power master in them. The imaging and true depth should be the only difference. A little help here could make a big difference. Thanks

The 1500 has the edge on the 1350 in depth. The 1250/1350/1500 are basically the same machines only set apart by their respective features and coils.

I've had my 1350 since the past summer and I am very pleased with it'operation. You can't go wrong with a Garrett, they're all easy to learn and operate. I haven't used a 1500 but I suspect if any depth was given up it wasn't a catastrophic amount.....and I have the ability to change coil sizes and still get "sizing" of targets...which works very well I might add. Good luck with your decision.

Hello Ted-----Here is another view of the 1350 from someone who uses one.

The GTI 1500 is NOT deeper than the GTAx 1250 or the GTP 1350.
The GTAx 1250 with the 8.5 crossfire II coil had the same depth as the GTI 1500. The newer GTAx 1250s and the GTP 1350 with the new standard Proformance coil beat the GTI 1500 in depth.
They all have the same power but use different coils.
If you put the same coil (4.5 coil) on all they have the same performance.
Now one may ask why gets the GTAx 1250 with an 8.5" coil the same depth than the GTI with 9.5" coil ?
Place the GTI imaging coil to the ground. Now look at the inner loop of the coil (that is one of the receiving loops), the inner loop is still 1 and a half inch off the ground while the outer transmitting loop is on the ground. There is that extra inch lost !!
If the GTI would detect deeper that the GTAx 1250 i would have it...but it doesn't.
Now for the imaging: It is just good to about 6 inches on coins.
And if you use the 4.5 ich coil or 10X14 DD or 12.5 crossfire II you loose the imaging anyway.
If you cant see the difference between a quarter and a can by the tone and by lifting the coil you must be very new to detecting.
My top of the line Garrett is still the 1250.
If Garrett would put the true all metal mode in that one i would buy it in a second.
Whatever Garett you buy..you will have some fun.

Bill,
I have a lot of respect for your metal detecting abilities and experience, but would you please rebut B.T.'s quote from Andy. What Andy says about the reception coil being off the ground makes sense. Could you explain why you disagree with Andy. Your comment would be appreciated.
B.T. , Andy, and Bill-------> Please do not take offense by my question. I am just trying to understand actual facts and get them into my thick head.
Thanks a bunch

Larry and Bill---------I'm in the same boat as Ted in that I am very new to this and am taking in all that I can to learn---specifically about the 1350. I posted Andy's comments (I hope he didn't mind but he does have lots of experience)that he originally posted on the other Garrett forum recently that Bill is also on. I too, by the way, would like to hear what Bill's thoughts are about this. Larry, I think my head is thicker than yours! Thanks everyone.

Well boys and girls I have been in this hobby for 42 years in several states. I used to be Field Test Editor for Gold & Treasure Hunter magazine before it was forced out of existence. I have written probably 600 articles or so for the various treasure magazines over the years. I still have a column on the now defunct Online Magazine at Treasure Depot.
I have field tested detectors and related equipment for many years including the 1500/2500 when they first came out plus the prototype for the 1350 and also the production model. The 1500 has the edge ( not a whopping edge ) on depth over the 1350 due to the size of the coil- 9.5 inches opposed to 7x10 inches. The major part of the center receiving coil on the 1500 is only about three-quarters of an inch off the ground when the entire coil is resting flat on the ground, hardly enough to make a world of difference. And for best results one should not rest the Garrett imaging coil flat on the ground for pinpointing to begin with. Hope this clears up the dilemma.
I have used the 1500 for many years and have dug coins at 10 inches plus with it. I have yet to pull a ten inch coin with the 1350, not saying it won't, just that I haven't run into one yet. I have learned in my 42 years that their are no constants in metal detecting and nothing is chiseled in stone.

Hi Larry,
Except for the different sizing features the GTI 1500, GTP 1350 and the 1250 are the same detectors and i had them all.I compared them in my test garden and i couldn't get more depth out of the GTI.
If the GTI can pull coins at 10", the other two can too. Some may like the GTI better because of the sizing with the stock coil.If you want more depth on the GTAx pr GTP just put the 12.5 crossfire II coil on it.If you want target separation use the 4.5 coil.Since you loose the sizing on the GTI anyway by using non imaging coils you can also buy the 1250.
Yes the GTP 1350 can size with ALL coils.
If Bill got an inch more on the GTI with stock coil over the GTAx or 1350..OK, but I didn't.
But if you buy any of the three you will have a great detector.Just make sure to use the right coil for your type of detecting.
HH,
Andy

It is a pleasure to write a comment/question on this Garrett forum and receive the response that usually comes.
Thanks again

What depth was you getting in your test garden ? And on what type of coins ect.

Yeah and varying soil conditions from onr area to another has a lot to do with the equation.
Bill

I got 8" on a dime with clear tone and visual ID jumping in the coin range. That is great for the soil here. The coin is in the ground 10 month now.Not all detectors i had could detect it.I run the GTAx at max sensitivity and i posted 10 times now how i set up a Garrett for max depth.

Andy
